Ruth Shelton

(She / Her)

Ruth takes a warm, collaborative, and person-centred approach to therapy. She believes that feeling genuinely heard and understood is an important part of the therapeutic process and strives to create a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental environment. Ruth tailors her approach to each patient and is passionate about helping people better understand themselves, navigate challenges, and build meaningful change in their lives.

Ruth holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, a Master of Science in Psychiatry Research from Dalhousie University, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology. Her therapeutic approach is integrative and tailored to each client, drawing from Strengths-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), DBT-informed approaches, and Narrative Therapy. Ruth works with concerns including anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma and PTSD, self-esteem and body image, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, stress, and life transitions.

Outside of her work as a therapist, Ruth enjoys spending time with her friends and family, staying active, getting outdoors, and spending time with her much-loved pets. She values connection, authenticity, and balance, and brings these same values into her work with clients.
