Dr. Erin Kempt-Sutherland

(Centre Director)

Dr. Erin Kempt-Sutherland is a Doctor of Chiropractic and co-owner of Choice Health Centre. She was exposed to chiropractic from a young age. As a competitive gymnast, chiropractic helped her overcome various injuries and provided her with wellness and performance care to attain optimal health and perform at her best. Erin knew she wanted to pursue a career in chiropractic, so she could help others express their greatest health potential.

After graduating with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology from Mount Allison University in 2000 and from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in 2004, Erin worked as a chiropractor in various multidisciplinary clinics in Ontario and Nova Scotia. She held a position with the massage therapy program at Medix College in Kitchener, Ontario, teaching all sciences including anatomy, physiology and pathology.

She founded Choice Health Centre in 2009, opened the second location in 2016 and merged with two other clinics in 2021, creating the largest privately- owned, clinician owned company of multi-disciplinary clinics in Nova Scotia.

Dr. Erin is Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), and a full body and nerve entrapment certified Active Release Techniques (ART) provider. Her practice combines traditional chiropractic with newer technologies such as Neurofunctional Acupuncture, Shockwave Therapy and Laser Therapy. She is a certified Functional Range Conditioning Specialist, and is the only Kinstretch certified instructor in Atlantic Canada. She also has certification in Webster Technique, Graston Technique and gentle paediatric techniques. Her approach to care is integrated, working closely with the other team members at Choice.

Dr. Erin was honoured to receive the Progress Women of Excellence Award in the category of Health, Sport & Wellness in 2014. In 2020 she and her business partner were the finalists representing Eastern Canada in the Momentum category of the RBC Women of Influence Canadian Women Entrepreneurial Awards. In addition to holding local chiropractic and business-related board positions, she represents Nova Scotia on the Canadian Chiropractic Guideline Initiative (CCGI), establishing best practice guidelines for clinicians nationally. She is a member of good standing with the Canadian Chiropractic Association and the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors. In 2020, she became an extended faculty at CMCC, as a preceptor for clinical externships.

Erin leads an active lifestyle through a balance of weight training, running, cycling, skiing, yoga, swimming, hiking and boating. She loves keeping up with husband Michael and their son, Ben, daughter Lila, and mini-springer doodle, Chester.
